Acne Myths - Does It Hold Against Medical Science?
When you reach adulthood it doesn’t necessarily means that you are free of acne. To some people the problem might recede but to
some less fortunate it gets worse or stay the same. Is the treatment for adult acne sufferers the same as adolescent acne
sufferers?
In order for you to effectively combat against the never ending war against acne, you must arm yourself with the knowledge of
things that actualy cause your acne break outs. But just as improtant is the fact that you must also know things that doesnlt cause
acne.Through the years, many myths have passed down about what causes acne, and they have caused ill-formed perceptions.
When the myths get busted
Getting a tan. Ever heard of this one? Getting a tan can clear up your skin and alleviate your acne
problems. How I wish that were true. This myth came about from the fact that when you get a tan, the redness (from your acne gets cover up
and becomes less noticable. In actual fact, the acne is still there, you just can't see too clearly.Add to that the risks associated with
tanning beds and the sun, and the skin damage that can occur, and this may hurt more than it will help.
Greasy foods.Eat greasy food and
your acne problem is going haywire. This myth includes eating fried foods and even chocolate. There are no scientific evidence linking
greasy food and chocolate to acne problems. You might as well enjoy the chocolate while you're at it. So folks, now is the time to get busy
with the candy bar.
Wash your face and you'll get less acne breakouts. Wrong! the logic doesn't work that way. While
washing your face gets rid of oil and excess dirt, and removes dry skin, washing your face too often can remove some of the essential oils,
therefore, causing your face to become especially dry and irritated. Wash your face too often can
cause skin irritation and prevent your skin from healing properly. Its not that you don't wash wash your face at all, but be moderate and
avoid excessive washing on your face. By not over washing your face, you are allowing the body’s natural oils to work, at the same
time removing dirt and dead skin which can clog pores and cause acne.
Popping the pimple. Nothing can be farther from the truth. You've heard it before that states as a
matter of factly that when you pop a pimple it will clear up more quickly. What happens is that when you pop a pimple you risk infecting
the area around the existing acne and risking further acne breakouts. While this can make the pimple seem less noticeable, it can actually
make the healing process a longer one. This is because popping a pimple can push the bacteria
from it deeper into the skin, making the surrounding area red and irritated. Devices designed
to help pop your pimples, such as blackhead extractors, aren’t safe either, as they can cause scars to form.
Make up and shaving. Wearing make up and shaving increase the risk of you aggravating your acne. If
you have acne, it is okay to use products that are noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic, which means they won’t clog pores and cause
breakouts. When you try to conceal your acne using the concealers, you'd be glad to know
that some concealers now have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid in them, and, will, therefore, help fight acne.
Those are some of the myths busted concerning acne. There are many other myths associated with acne and what causes
it. Its vitally important that you know and really make the effort of educating yourself with regards
to acne and ultimately find a way to fight it.Consult a dermatologist if you are unsure about possible causes and treatments, or if
