The first steps toward treating your acne problems is by knowing your skin type. Read on to find out how.

How To Determine Your Skin Type

Skin type plays a major role in how acne affects you and what is needed to treat is.  It will also dictates what kind of products best suited to solve your acne problems and what types of acne medications to take in your quest to solve your acne problems.

These are some of the basic question that you can raise to yourself.  Do acne break out often?  Is blackheads often plaguing your life?  Have a close examination on your pores- what does it look like?  Do you feel itchiness after cleaning your face with soap?  Do you have facial lines?  By asking yourself these questions, you can determine what types of products will work best for you and how your skin might react to them.

There are three basic skin types, but this does not mean your skin can’t be a combination of them.

Oily
Normal
Dry

You could have any one of these skin types, or a combination of them, such as normal to oily, or normal to dry.  There are different products for caring for each.

What is your skin type?

Get ready to find what is your skin type. Each skin type is characterized by different things such as texture, oil production, and frequency of breakouts.

People with dry skin rarely suffer breakouts and blackhead is almost unheard of.  The main ingredient in promoting blackheads are the excess of oil on your face.  If your skin is dry, you are not producing very much oil, therefore, aren’t prone to as many breakouts of blackheads and subsequently acne.

People with dry skin can almost see their pores, and may feel dry and tight after washing.  Most people with dry skin are fair skined, and often develop facial lines earlier in life.  Their skin also burns easily.

Normal skinned people suffer breakouts sometimes but not too frequent and can have blackheads that appear mostly in the t-zone the area on either side of the nose and on the forehead.  You can see your pores but not throughout your face but only in the t-zone, and the skin may feel tight after washing, but will soon become comfortable with  oil in t-zone.

Skin colouring for these people may vary from fair to medum, and a few lines may appear early on mostly around the eyes.  When exposed to the sun, they often burn (who doesn't?) and get a nice tan afterwards.

For oily skinned people, acne and blackheads are the bane of their existence. The pimple just love to pop up every now and then and quite frequent too.  The pores are often enlarged, and after washig the face may be oilly, with the nose and forehead quickly becoming shiny.

Oily skin people will have a relatively darker skin color.  Facial lines are usually very few to none in occurance, and oilly skin usually stays preserved longer and does not age as quickly as do the other skin types.  When exposed to the sun, this skin type rarely burns, but rather tans easily.

Now that you know what your skin type is, you can find products developed especially for it. There are many products available on the market for vast types of skins - even combination skin types. All you have to do is get the ones most suited for you. Once you find a regimen of products that work for you, you can begin treating your acne properly.
